looking at Manifest Destiny's affect on Westward expansion.

QuestionAnswer
What was Manifest Destiny? The belief among Americans they should own and control the land from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean. God gave them this land. Americans believed that our future and economic wealth laid taking the land West.
What was Westward Expansion? The movement or migration of Americans from the Appilliation Mountains to California.
What was the Louisiana Purchase? France sold the Louisiana territory to The USA. It doubled the size of the USA. President Thomas Jefferson sent Lewis and Clark to map, draw, explore the land and resources.
How did the Northwest Ordinance help manifest Destiny? It laid out the rules for a territory to become a state. 1=60,000 residents, 2=write a state constitution, 3= ask US Congress permission to become a state.
What inventions helped Westward Movement? The building of Canals like the Erie and Ohio Canals. The use of Steamboats down the Mississippi and Ohio rivers. The invention and use of the Telegraph and Morse code. And the invention of the Railroad.
What war was fought due to Manifest Destiny? The Mexican-American war.
How did the Mexican American War start? Mexicans in Texas fought and won their independence from Mexico. Texas became a country. The US Congress voted to add Texas as a state. The Mexican fought for Control and lost.
What land did the USA win after the Mexicans lost the Mexican American War? Won the land today we call California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico. The whole southwest US.
