Academic Vocabulary Practice

evidence Material that is presented to show or prove that something else exists or is true
claim a statement you believe to be true; an assertion of something as a fact
sequence the order in which things happen or should happen
excerpt a small part or piece of a longer work
verify to make sure something is accurate and/or true
contribute to give to a common supply, fund, ect.
element a part or aspect of something that is important
cite to mention (something) especially an example or to support an idea or opinion
attribute to say that (something) is because of (someone or something); consider as caused by something indicated (usually followed by to)
annotate to supply with critical explanatory notes ;to add notes or comments to ( a text, book, drawing, ect.)
reflect to show( something): to make (something) known
estimate a guess that you make based on the information you have about the size, amount, ect., of something
previous existing or happening before before the present time
gist what something is mainly about; the essential part of something
component one of the parts of something (such as a systems or mixture): an important piece of something
contrast to compare (two people or things)to show how different they are
resolve find a solution, reach a decision
benefit something that is advantageous or good
impact to have an effect on; influence; alter
persist to continue to do something or to try to do something even though it is difficult to or other people want you to stop
relevant having a connection with the subject or issue
reveal to make known; to show or prove that ( someone or something) is a particular type of person or thing
approximate not quite exact or correct
predict to tell in advance
emphasize to stress; single out as important
