Cardiovascular Drugs- Antishock

QuestionAnswer
clinical syndrome characterized by decreased blood supply to body tissues shock
drugs used to treat hypotension and shock antishock drugs
How do antishock drugs work 1. work to vasoconstrict and get blood where it needs to be 2. body works to get oxygenated blood to vital organs, so extremeties become very cold 3. brain doesn't get adequate perfusion
Characteristics of antishock drugs include 1. low tissue perfusion 2. very low B/P 3. tachycardia 4. low urine output 5. cold/clammy skin
How do antishock drugs affect urinary output the body is trying to get more fluids to vital organs, therefore there will be decreased urine production
therapeutic goal of antishock drugs to restore/maintain adequate tissue perfusion
actions of antishock 1. vasoconstriction 2. increase contractility and HR 3. decreased urine production
ensure these meds don't seep into surrounding tissues or may cause tissue necrosis
common adverse effects 1. hypertension 2. tachycardia, other arrhthmias 3. local tissue necrosis (with vasoconstriction)
norepinephrine is classified as what kind of antianginal alpha adrenergic agonist
is alpha adrenergic agonist a vasocontrictor or vasodilator vasoconstrictor
unique features of alpha adrenergic agonist (norepinephrine) reduces renal blood flow
mechanisms of beta adrenergic agonist (dubotamine) increase myocardial contractility and heart rate
beta adrenergic agonist (dobutamine) is used for cardiogenic shock
dobutamine is classified as which type of antishock drug beta adrenergic agonist
mechanisms of alpha and beta adrenergic agonist (dopamine and epinephrine) vasoconstriction increased myocardial contractility and heart rate
epinephrine is used to treat analphylactic shock
dopamine causes variable effects, what are they large dose causes vasoconstriction smaller dose cause more myocardial contractility
alpha/beta adrenergic agonists are used to treat anaphylaxis
alpha/beta adrenergic agonists requires adequate fluid replacement
