Term | Definition |

Exponent | tells how many times the base is used as a factor |
Power | a number that is expressed using an exponent |
Base | it is used as a factor as many times as given by the exponent |
Negative Exponent | they are the result of repeated division |
Monomial | an expression that is a number, a variable, or a product of numbers and/or variables |
Standard Form | a number that does not contain exponents |
Scientific Notation | a number that is expressed using the power of 10 |
Square Root | one of the two equal factors of a number |
Perfect Square | rational numbers whose square root is a whole number |
Radical Sign | the square root symbol used to indicate a nonnegative square root |
Cube Root | one of three equal factors of a number |
Perfect Cube | a number that is the cube of an integer |
Irrational Number | a number that cannot be expressed as a/b |
Real Numbers | the set of rational numbers together with the set of irrational numbers |
