Term | Definition |

ceases | (formal) to stop doing something or stop happening |
circumstances | (formal) the conditions in which you live, especially how much money you have |
clause | a part of a written law or legal document covering a particular subject of the whole law or document |
coherence | when something such as a piece of writing is easy to understand because its parts are connected in a clear and reasonable way |
coincide | to happen at the same time as something else, especially by chance |
collapse | if a building, wall etc collapses, it falls down suddenly, usually because it is weak or damaged |
commission | a group of people who have been given the official job of finding out about something or controlling something |
commodity | a product that is bought and sold |
compensation | money paid to someone because they have suffered injury or loss, or because something they own has been damaged |
compiled | to make a book, list, record etc, using different pieces of information, music etc |
components | one of several parts that together make up a whole machine, system etc |
comprise | to consist of particular parts, groups etc |
conformity | behaviour that obeys the accepted rules of society or a group, and is the same as that of most other people |
controversy | a serious argument about something that involves many people and continues for a long time |
criteria | a standard that you use to judge something or make a decision about something |
crucial | something that is crucial is extremely important, because everything else depends on it |
deduction | the process of using the knowledge or information you have in order to understand something or form an opinion, or the opinion that you form |
denote | to mean something |
deviation | a noticeable difference from what is expected or acceptable |
devoted | giving someone or something a lot of love and attention |
disposal | when you get rid of something |
dynamic | full of energy and new ideas, and determined to succeed |
