Diagnostic Tests

Stack #25532

Pulmonary AngiographyChest X-RayBone DensitometryCT ScanUltrasoundElectrocardiogram (ECG)Esophagogastroduodenoscopy EGD
Injection of radiographic contrast into pulmonary arteries to visualize the pulmonary vasculature. Radiographic imaging of the chest. Patient must be correctly positioned, take a deep breath and hold it until films are obtained. A radioactive nucleotide is placed in a tube and passed over the bony area to be studied (usually the distal radius). A scintillator photon detector is placed on the opposite side to detect the number of photons passing through. Computers re-create a 3D cross-sectional view of body structures after obtaining X-Ray information from the entire circumference of the body. High frequency sound waves are directed at internal body structures and a record is made of the wave pulses as they are reflected back through the tissue. A graphic representation of the heart's electrical impulses. Enables direct visualization of the lumen of the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum. Can be used for biopsies of suspected pathologic material.
Stress Testing Paracentisis Thoracoscopy PET Scan MRI Lumbar Puncture Bronchoscopy
A noninvasive procedure that stresses the heart in some way then is evaluated in some way. Forms of this include exercise, chemical, and pacing The insertion of a needle into the peritoneal cavity for removal of ascitic fluid. This is used to directly visualize the pleura, lung, and mediastinum. A scope is placed through the chest after the lung is collapsed. Radioactive chemicals that are normally absorbed by the organ being studies are administered to the patient then positron emissions are recorded in 2 or 3D images Noninvasive diagnostic technique using a magnetic field and radiofrequency signals. In this procedure a needle is placed in the subarachnoid space of the spinal column. The pressure can be measured, CSF obtained, or therapeutic or diagnostic agents administered. Endoscopic visualization of the larynx, trachea, and bronchi.
