Colon Uses

Basic Rules to know for colons

Rule 1 use a colon after an independent clause when the material that follows a list, an illustration, or an explanation
Something important to know for rule 1 do not use a colon directly after a verb; after the preposition except or regarding; or after the expression such as, for example, especially, or including.
Rule 2 use a colon for the salutation of a business letter.
Rule 3 use a colon when writing the time in all numbers
Rule 4 use a colon between the title and the subtitle of a book
