here, are the ^ basic nutrients and some definitions to practice :)

Nutrition | how body uses food to maintain health |
Nutrient | substance necessary for growth and life |
Water | most essential nutrient for life, assists with digestion/absorption of food, helps maintain body temp. |
Carbohydrates | supply body w/ energy and extra protein |
Protein | part of every body cell, stored in body fat, needed for tissue growth/repair, supplies energy |
Fats | stored as energy, absorb certain vitamins |
Vitamins | substances needed for body function |
Minerals | builds bones, makes hormones, helps blood formation, vegetables, fruits, grains, protein, dairy |
simple carbohydrates | sweets, syrups, jellies, etc. |
complex carbohydrates | bread, cereal, vegetables, rice, pasta |
fat-soluble vitamins | A,D,E,K |
water-soluble vitamins | B,C |
