Insulin

Insulin anti-diabetic medication
Lispro rapid acting . onset 15-30 min peak 0.5-2.5 hr. duration of action 3-6 hrs. time of adverse effects midmorning : trembling / weakness. Characteristics - client should eat within 5-15 min after injection ; also used in insulin pump.
Aspart rapid acting. onset 15-30 min peak 1-3 hr. duration of action 3-5 hrs. time of adverse effects midmorning : trembling /weakness characteristics - client should eat within 5-15 min after injection : also used in insulin pump
Glulisine rapid acting . onset 10-15 min peak 1-1.5 hrs. duration of action 3-5 hrs. time of adverse effects : midmorning : trembling / weakness. Characteristics: client should eat within 5- 15 min after injection ; also used in insulin pump.
Regular insulin short acting. onset 30-60 min peak 1-5 h duration of action 6-10hrs . Time of adverse effects ; midmorning , mid-afternoon ; weakness , fatigue . characteristics ; clear solution ; given 20-30 min before meal ; can be alone or with other insulin
NPH insulin intermediate-acting . onset 1-2h peak 6-14 h duration of action 16-24 hrs. time of adverse effects early evening ; weakness / fatigue characteristics ; white and cloudy solution; can be given after meals
Insulin determir intermediate-acting . onset 1-2 hours peak 12-24h durations of action varies . time of adverse effects early evening ; weakness / fatigue characteristics ; white and cloudy solutions can be given after meals
Glargine very long acting . onset 1 h peak continuous (no peak) duration of action 24 h . characteristics maintain blood glucose levels regardless of meals ; cannot be mixed with other insulins ; given at bedtime.
