Exam Study Guide

QuestionAnswer
Article A, an, the
Noun A person, place, thing, or idea
Adjective A word used to describe a noun. The BLACK cat
Pronoun A word used in place of a noun, such as he, she, them, or they.
Verb Expresses action, or the existence of a condition, such as running, run, jumping, jump.
Adverb Modifies a verb. John calls MORE often now.
Conjunction Connects words or groups of words. John enjoys being with his friends AND family, or John’s speech was brief BUT powerful.
Preposition The cat is _______ the box. Relates a noun or pronoun that appears with it to another word in the sentence. John talked TILL dusk. Dad made the meal FOR us.
Interjection Expresses feeling or emotion. It is not related to other words in the sentence. Words like hurray or wow.
