Intracellular (ICF) - within cell - about 2/3 of adult body fluid - vital to cell functioning - medium for metabolic process
Extracellular (ECF) - outside cell - 1/3 of body fluid - intravascular or plasma - interstitial (surrounds cells) - lymph and transcellular fluid (about 5%) - carries oxygen and nutrients to, and waste products away, from cells
