CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES ARE NOT KEPT IN WHICH OF THE DISPENSING SYSTEMS MEDICATION CABINET. IT IS A LOCKED CABINET IN THE CLIENT'S ROOM. IT HOLDS THE CLIENT'S UNIT-DOSE MEDICATIONS AND (MAR)
HOW ARE THE DISPENSING SYSTEMS ACCESSED? THE NURSE EITHER CARRIES A KEY OR ENTERS A SPECIAL CODE TO OPEN IT
WHEN ADMINISTERING ANY DRUG, REGARDLESS OF ROUTE, THE NURSE MUST DO THE FOLLOWING: IDENTIFY THE CLIENT, INFORM THE CLIENT, ADMINISTER THE DRUG, PROVIDE ADJUCTIVE INTERVENTIONS AS INDICATED, RECORD THE DRUG ADMINISTERED, EVALUATE CLIENT'S RESPONSE TO DRUG
HOW MANY IDENTIFIERS ARE TO BE USED WHEN ADMINISTERING MEDICATIONS TO A CLIENT? WHAT ARE THEY? 2. PERSON'S NAME, ASSIGNED ID NUMBER (WRISTBAND), TELEPHONE NUMBER, PHOTOGRAPH, OR DOB.
SOME HOSPITALS USE ___________ TECHNOLOGY FOR MEDICATION ADMINISTRATION. BAR-CODE. (THE NURSE MUST SCAN OR ENTER THE NURSE'S OWN ID, THE CLIENT'S WRISTBAND, AND EACH PKG. OF MEDICATION TO BE ADMINISTERED)
IF THE CLIENT IS UNFAMILIAR WITH THE MEDICATION, THE NURSE SHOULD DO WHAT? EXPLAIN THE INTENDED ACTION AS WELL AS ANY SIDE EFFECTS OR ADVERSE EFFECTS THAT MIGHT OCCUR. LISTEN TO THE CLIENT.
ALWAYS PERFORM HOW MANY CHECKS BEFORE ADMINISTERING THE DRUG? 3
THE FACTS RECORDED IN THE CHART, IN INK OR BY COMPUTER PRINTOUT, ARE: NAME OF THE DRUG, DOSAGE, METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION, SPECIFIC RELEVANT DATA SUCH AS PULSE RATE, AND ANY OTHER PERTINENT INFORMATION. THE RECORD SHOULD ALSO INCLUD THE EXACT TIME OF ADMINSTRATION AND THE SIGNATURE OF THE NURSE PROVIDING THE MEDICATION.
