Ratonale Intradermal

rationale for administering an intradermal injection

QuestionAnswer
Why do we need to verify the pt's ID before administering intradermal injections? This ensures that the right client receives the medication.
Why do we explain in detail the injection and the outcome of the injection? Information can facilitate acceptance of and compliance with the therapy.
Why would we be more concerned about expeling bubbles in the syringe than any tiny bubbles that appear on the plunger. A small amount of air will not harm the tissues.
Why would you hold the needle almost parallel to the skin surface, with the bevel of the needle up? the possibility of the medication entering the subcutaneous tissue increases when using an angle greater thatn 15 degrees. The bevel up position provides more comfort for the nurse and is faster to administer.
Why would we want the skin to be taut when giving the injection? Taut skin allows for easier entry of the needle and less discomfort for the client.
Why do you not message the area after the injection is given? Message can disperse the medication into the tissue or out through the needle insertion site.
Why would we evaluate the clients response to the testing substance? Some medications used in testing may cause allergic reactions. Epinephrine may need to be used.
Why don't we recap needles before disposing of them? To prevent needlestick injuries.
