Term | Definition |

Original holiness | State (of perfection) for human beings to share in God's life. |
Original justice | State of creation which included immortality and the absence of suffering and pain. |
Original Sin | Fallen state of human nature into which all generations of people are born. |
Sin | An offense against God through a violation of truth, reason, and conscience. |
Concupiscence | An inclination to commit sin. It can be found in human desires and appetites as a result of Original Sin. |
natural law | God's plan for human living that is written in the very way He created things. |
Day of Atonement | Celebrated by Jews each year to ask God's forgiveness for their sins. |
Beatitudes | Meaning "supreme happiness," there are eight preached by Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount which respond to our natural desire for happiness. |
Blasphemy | Any thought, word, or act that expresses hatred or contempt for God, Christ, the Church, saints, or holy things. |
Patriarchs | Male rulers, elders, or leaders. Those of faith of Israel are Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. |
Encyclical | A letter written by the Pope about some important issue & circulated through the entire Church. |
Heaven | Our final communion with the Blessed Trinity, Mary, the angels, and all the saints. |
Pentecost | The day when the Holy Spirit descended on the Apostles and gave them the power to preach with conviction the message that Jesus is risen and is Lord of the universe. |
