Organelle Function
Eukaryotic Organelle Function
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Ribosome | Makes proteins |
Nucleus | Control center of the cell; stores DNA |
DNA | Provides the instructions for making proteins |
Endoplasmic Reticulum | Transports proteins throughout the cell |
Golgi Apparatus/Golgi Body | Packages proteins for movement |
Vesicle | Lipid bubble used to move proteins throughout the cell |
Chloroplast | Makes food for the plant cell |
Chlorophyll | Green pigment found inside chloroplast |
Mitochondria | Provides energy for the cell through cell respiration |
Vacuole | Used as storage for water in a plant cell |
Cell (Plasma) Membrane | Allows things to enter and leave the cell |
Cell Wall | Rigid barrier that provides structure and support for plant cells |
Three organelles found in plant cells but not animal cells | (1) Chloroplast (2) Cell Wall (3) Large central vacuole |
Cytoplasm | Jelly-like substance that fills the cell and maintains its shape |
