How long did the Israelites travel in the desert? | 40 years |
Why did God make the Israelites travel instead of going on a direct route to Canaan? | Egyptian soldiers patrolled the trade route along the Mediterranean Sea from Egypt to Canaan. Since the Egyptians would have recaptured the Hebrews, God led the Hebrews on a longer route to Canaan away from the soldiers. |
What are ways the Israelites were impatient traveling in the desert? | Grumble about source of water. Gather more manna than they need – turns wormy. Try to gather manna on the Sabbath. |
What are three ways God provided for the Israelites while traveling in the desert? | God helped the Israelites by providing water.God helped the Israelites by providing quail. God helped the Israelites by providing manna (bread) from Heaven |
What is Manna? | Bread from Heaven. God provided to the Israelites when they needed food. |
How is bread an important part of our faith? | Unleavened bread was eaten by the Hebrews at Passover because they had to leave quickly so bread didn’t have time to rise.Jesus fed the crowds with fish and bread. Jesus feeds us with the Eucharist |
What are the ten commandments? How did they get to Earth? | God provided the 10 Commandments to the Israelites as a guide for living. God gave Moses the 10 Commandments on Mount Sinai. |
What is the Tabernacle? | worship space for God in the wilderness |
What is the Arc of Covenant? | where 10 Commandments were kept |
What is idolatry and how did the Israelites show Idolatry? | Worship of false gods. Israelites angered God by making and worshipping a golden calf. |
Where do we see the number 40 in the Bible? | Israelites wandered for 40 years in desert. Moses on Mount Sinai for 40 days. Noah was in Ark for 40 days. Jesus fasted in the wilderness for 40 days (Lent is 40 days long) |
