Head lice treatment Pyrethrin w/ piperonyl butoxide (RID), Permethrin creme (NIX)drug of choice for infant *itching may continue 2-3 wks after tx
Lyme Disease Stage I-1month after bite, ECM's 2-24", Stage II-2-3months after ECM, Neurologic and Cardiac abnormalities, Stage III-months to years, arthritis & chronic neurologic symptoms
Lyme Disease diagnostics Recognition of ECM, increases sed rate, ELISA, Serologic tests may not become elevated til later stages
Lyme Diseas tx Doxycycline for >8yrs, Amoxicillan <8yrs
Poison Ivy, Oak, Sumac tx Cold/tepid compress, Calamine lotion, topical or oral steriod
Steven-Johnson Syndrome s/s severe form of erythema multiforme, begins w/flu-like sympt. lesions of mucuos membranes & multiple systemic symptoms
SJS treatment symptomatic, hospitalization for severe cases, nursing care is same as a burned child
Catch Scratch Diseas lympadenitis follows an animal scratch or bite, self-limiting, symptomatic tx
Brown Recluse Spider Mild sting w/bite, star shaped in 3-4 days then ulcerates, tx w/antibiotics, pain meds, may need skin graft
Black Widow Has hourglass shaped marking on underside, very painful, dizzines, weakness, abd pain, delirium, paralysis, death, *tx w/antivenin, muscle relaxant
Rabies Immediately cleanse wound, give tetanus & antibiotics, *vax given on day 0,3,7,14,28
Snake bites usually vipers (cortilidae, morbidity varies on size of snake, amount of venom, time of year, location of bite, age and size of child
Snake bite interventions loose tourniquet proximal to bite, remove constricting clothing, immobilize limb, bring dead snake, once symptoms occur it is impossible to stop respiratory paralysis
Von Recklinhausen Disease autosomal dominant, coffee colored spots at birth, tumors, elephantitis, affects neurologic, opthalmic & skeletal *tx symptomatic
