Condensing Osteitis

Clinical Features of Condensing Osteitis | Commonly seen secondary sclerosis of bone near premolars or molars of the mandible. Dental pulp demonstrates pulpitis of necrosis. |
Demographics of Condensing Osteitis | Occurs over a broad age range, wit ha predilection for young patients in the premolar and molar areas of the mandible. |
Lesion Terminology of Condensing Osteitis | Areas of bone sclerosis associated with apices of teeth with pupitis from large carious lesions, deep coronal restorations, or pulpal necrosis. Localized inflammation should be present. |
Lesion Appearance of Condensing Osteitis | Widening of the PDL with an apical inflammatory lesion that does not demonstrate alveolar expansion. |
Differential Diagnosis of Condensing Osteitis | Differential diagnosis includes Periapical Cemental Dyslplasia, Osteoma, and Complex Odontoma. |
Treatment of Condensing Osteitis | Resolving the odontogenic focus of infection by extraction or endodontic therapy of the invovled tooth. |
Radiographic Features of Condensing Osteitis | Localized, uniform zone of increased radiodensity adjacent to the apex of a tooth. No radiolucent border, but an adjacent radiolucent inflammatory lesion may be present. |
