DM is a metabolic disorder characterized by? (4) - Elevated blood glucose - Disordered insulin - may have impaired insulin secretion - may have cells that do not respond to insulin normally
What are the classic and other symptoms of DM? Classic: - Glycosuria - Polydipsia - polyuria - polyphagia Other: - blurred vision increased infection loss of weight constant fatigue
Describe the 3 types of diagnostic test of DM. 1. non-fasting plama glucose: 200 mg/dL or > and classic symptoms 2. Fasting glucose level: >126 mg/dL 3. Plasma glucose 2 hrs after a 75 gm glucose load = >200 mg/dL
