Leukemia- treatment | *chemotherapy- the agents that are used depend on the type of leukemia, age, and whether the leukemic cells are found in the cerebrospinal fluid *chemo is administered in 4 phases *to be in remission- have to have less than 5% of leukemic cells in bone |

Leukemia- early manifestations | * low grade fever * increased bruising and petechiae *pallor *enlarged liver, lymph nodes, joints |
Leukemia- diagnostics procedure | * bone marrow aspiration or biopsy - if leukemia is present the specimen will show prolific quantities of immature leukemic blast cells *cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis - CSF is obtained by a lumbar puncture |
Leukemia- assessment | lethargy, weakness, paleness, dizziness. back, leg, and joint pain, headache, trouble standing or walking. easy bruising, unusual bleeding, frequent nose bleeds, bleeding gums, petechiae, frequent infections, fever that lasts several days |

Neuroblastoma- S/SX | manifestations depend on the location and stage of the disease. half of the children have few findings, ill appearance, periorbital ecchymoses, proptosis, bone pain, irritability |

Neuroblastoma- assessment | assess for lumps of tissue under the skin, eyes that protrude from sockets (proptosis), dark circles around eyes, back pain, fever, unexplained weight loss, bone pain |
