American Revolution

Individual Rights Rights guaranteed to every person in the United States
Checks and Balances Limits put on each of the 3 branches of government so no one branch has too much power
Continental Congress The group of male leaders from the 13 colonies that were gathering together to establish how to break away from England
taxes An amount of money that a government requires people to pay and is used to pay for things done by the government
declaration A formal statement to declare that you want or need something
representation Having someone act in the place or a person or group
Congress Representatives from different locations gather together in a formal meeting to discuss certain issues or concerns
13 Colonies Was a group of settlements that became the original states of the USA
Revolution The usually violent attempt by many people to end the rule of one government and start another one
colonists A person who lives in one of the 13 colonies that were established in America
boycott Refuse to buy items out of protest
protest a statement or action expressing disapproval of or objection to something
Patriot a colonist who vigorously supports their country and is prepared to defend it against Britain
traitor a person who betrays their country
tyrant a cruel and oppressive ruler
