What information is gathered about the superficial veins ? | Patency, size, depth, and position |
Vein mapping allows for: | selection of optimal vein, can alter planned surgery and surgical approach and minimize the amount of surgical dissection |
What are some alternatives to markers for vein mapping? | Coffee stirrers or straws that can indent the skin |
What is a vein mapping alternative? | Apply a strip of tape on the side of the TD, mark center of TD, Put the vein the center in the U/S field of view (don't zoom), create an indention on the skin over the vein @ the mark of the TD, repeat until you're done, Connect the "dots" W/ a marker |
What do you do in double systems when vein mapping? | Mark the accessory (smaller) vein with a dotted line instead of solid line |
What TD? | High Frew TD @ least 10 MHz |
Vein mapping provides what info? | Info about the presence/absence of vein, and also the suitability of vein for use as a conduit |
Generally most surgeons will not use a vein with a diameter less than what? | <2mm |
What is the preferred diameter of the veins? | 2.5-3 mm |
