Commandments and Beatitudes
Term | Definition |

Commandment | An important rule handed down by God to Moses. |
Decalogue | The Ten Commandments (literally, ten words) given by God to Moses on Mount Sinai. |
Law | A rule of conduct established by a community to regulate the actions and behaviours of its members. |
Rules | A statement which regulates what you are allowed to do or not allowed to do. |
Torah | The first 5 books of the Bible are known as the Torah,the 5 books of Moses or the Pentateuch. These 5 books are the body of Jewish religious literature, law, and teaching as contained chiefly in the Old Testament and the Talmud. |
Beatitude | The Beatitudes refer to the Christian ideals given by Jesus at the Sermon on the Mount. The term beatitude comes from the Latin noun beātitūdō which means "happiness". |
Blessing | This can refer to a special favour, mercy or gift given by God that can bring happiness. It can also refer to the action of someone who blesses or a short prayer spoken before meals and also known as grace. |
