Basic Electrical Terms
Term | Definition |

Current | A flow of charged particles |
Resistance | Anything that slows the current |
Voltage | The potential difference in a circuit |
Volt | Unit of measure for how much "push" is behind a charge |
Charge | Electrical activity |
Neutral | No electrical activity |
Ampere | Unit of measure for current |
Ohm | Unit of measure of resistance |
Circuit | A closed path for a charge to follow |
Open circuit | A circuit without a continuous conductive path |
Closed circuit | A complete circuit with a continuous conductive path |
Short circuit | A circuit where current is not resisted by anything |
Static electricity | A buildup of charged particles |
Electron | Electrically active subatomic particle with a negative charge |
Proton | Electrically active subatomic particle with a positive charge |
