Poetry Vocabulary

TermDefinition
free verse poetry that does not rhythm or follow a regular meter
poem a piece of writing that uses language, form and rhythm to express ideas
rhyme scheme is the pattern of rhyme that comes usually at the end of each verse or line in poetry.
internal rhyme is a poetic device that can be defined as metrical lines in which its middle words and its end words rhyme with one another.
end rhyme occurs when the last syllables or words in two or more lines rhyme with each other.
rhythm is a literary device that demonstrates the long and short patterns through stressed and unstressed syllables, particularly in verse form.
ballad - a type of poetry or verse which rely on simple and easy-to-understand language and focus on hardships, tragedies, love, and romance
narrative poem a poem that tells a story
