Autism | neurodevelopmental disorder with the onset in early childhood |
Behavior | how people respond and act in a given situation |
Bipolar Affective Disorder | condition characterized by periods of mania and depression |
Echolalia | meaningless repetition of another person's spoken words as a symptom of psychiatric order * involuntary parrot like repetition (echoing) of a word or phrase just spoken by another person |
Emotions | a natural instinctive state of mind deriving from one's circumstances, mood or relationships with others |
Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) | condition characterized by excessive, uncontrollable and irrational worry lasting greater than 6 months |
Hypomania | state where people are energetic, excitable and hyperactive, and may be highly productive |
Limbic System | circuits that connect one's cognitive activity, expression of emotions, and behavior |
Mania | condition where a person displays erratic and impulsive behavior resulting in poor decisions, and requires very little, if any, sleep |
Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) | condition characterized by a pervasive and persistent low mood |
Mood | an internal, subjective psychological state, which directs how a person feels and perceives the world |
Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) | anxiety disorder caused by extreme traumatic events, commonly affecting those who have experienced military combat, victims of natural disasters, concentration camp survivors, and victims of violent crimes |
Psychosis | state of complete mental and emotional loss of touch with reality |
Regression | return to a former or less developed state |
Schizophrenia | psychotic mental health disorder characterized by hallucinations, delusions, fixed false beliefs, and disorganized speech and behavior |
Temperament | -personality -a person's nature, especially as it permanently affects their behavior |
