Development of Cells and Tissues 1

TermDefinition
Apoptosis The death of cells occurs as a normal and controlled part of an organisms growth and development.
Tissues from Endoderm The innermost germ layer - forms the epithelial lining of the digestive tube except part of the mouth and pharynx. Lining cells of all the glands which open into the digestive tract including liver and pancreas.
Tissues from Ectoderm Outer layer- Forms CNS, lens of eye, sensory epithelium of the eye and ear. Forms epithelium of oral and nasal cavities and tooth enamel. Forms Neural tube- becomes brain and spinal cord.
Tissues from Mesoderm Middle germ layer - part of trilaminar disk. Forms cardiac and skeletal muscle, dentin, pulp, cementum, & periodontal ligament.
Trilaminar Disk Result of gastrulation. Consists of three germ layers: ectoderm, mesoderm, endoderm.
Function of Skin Excretion of waste products, such as carbon dioxide, water, salt, and urea. Eliminates heat and protects against foreign materials. Largest organ.
Urinary System Includes kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urinary tract. Filters toxic and unnecessary substances and concentrates them prior to excretion.
Endocrine System Includes thyroid, parathyroid, and pituitary glands; ovaries, testes, pancreas, and adrenal medulla. Secretes hormones into vascular circulation.
Vascular System Includes heart, large elastic arteries, smaller muscular arteries, capillaries and veins. Pump blood and carry oxygen in the bloodstream and return carbon dioxide to the lungs.
Neural System PNS + Brain and spinal cord. Afferent (sensory) and efferent (motor) nerve process to carry information and convey it from the PNS to skin, muscles and glands.
