| Dementia | permanent and progressive lost of mental functions |
| Delirium | Temporary state of confusion |
| Alzheimer's Disease | Characterized by permanent and progressive loss of the ability to think and remember |
| Vascular Dementia | loss of function in multiple areas of the brain due to tissue death |
| Lewy Body Dementia | build up of abnormal protein deposits in areas of the brain |
| Frontotemporal Dementia | brain damage to areas of the brain that responsible for personality, behavior and language |
| Amnesia | memory loss |
| Aphasia | Difficulty communication |
| Agnosia | Difficulty recognizing information obtained using the 5 senses |
| Apraxia | Difficulty coordinating the steps needed to complete a task |
| Perseveration | Repetition- a person will do the same thing over and over again |
| Catastrophic reaction | Over reaction to something |
| Sundowning | Worsening of person's behavior in the late afternoon or evening |
| Validation Therapy | Acknowledging the patient's reality |
| Reminiscence Therapy | Encourages patient to remember and share experiences from the past. |
