EJNT 7 Gospel of John vocabulary

TermDefinition
Christology Branch of theology that studies the meaning of the person of Jesus Christ.
Feast of the Dedication Word "Hanukkah" means "festival of lights." It marks the re-dedication of the Temple in the days of the Maccabees.
Feast of Tabernacles A.k.a Feast of Booths, it was originally a Canaanite celebration of the harvest. People lived in booths to represent the small huts farmers lived in during the harvest season.
glory of God The visible Revelation of the power of the invisible God.
humility The virtue which reminds us that God is the author of all good; it tempers ambition or pride & provides the foundation for turning to God in prayer.
logos A Greek term that means "Word." Jesus is the Word of God made flesh, who is both the revealer of God and God's Revelation.
papyrus A type of paper made from reed found in the delta of the Nile River and parts of Italy.
Paraclete A name for the Holy Spirit. In Jn 14:6, Jesus promised to send an advocate, helper, who would guide, lead & strengthen the disciples.
priest A mediator between God and humans. Jesus as God-made-man bridges both Heaven & earth, bringing God to humanity and humanity to God.
Pool of Siloam Outside the city of Jerusalem, a receptacle for the waters of the Gihon Spring.
