First step in medication preperation? Review doctor's orders, MAR.
What 5 things will you review? Action, Purpose, Normal Dosage, Nursing Implications, Contraindications .
What are the pre-medication assessments? BP, P, Lab tests, allergies, site of previous injections.
Obtain what for vaccines? Signature.
Proper needle size for ID? 25-27g, 1/8-5/8", up to 0.1 mL
Proper needle size for SQ? 25-29g, 3/8-5/8", up to 1.5 mL
Proper needle size for IM? 19-25g, 1-11/2", up to 2 (deltoid)-5 mL
How many label check? When? 3 checks. 1. Pulling from drawer. 2. Measuring medication. 3. Putting in the drawer.
Check what at the end or before measuring medications? Expiration dates and prepare meds.
