Ethical Leadership

Ethics (Ethical Leadership) The STUDY of what we understand to be good in right behavior and how we judge those behavior.
Military Ethics (Ethical Leadership) VALUES and expected RULES of the profession that are appropriate to actions taken within the military environment.
Ethical Behavior (Ethical Leadership) ACTING responsibly in difficult and/or complex situation; with quality character and judgement, is the essence of ethical behavior.
Ethical Relativism (Ethical Leadership) The DEFINITION of right or wrong depends on the prevailing view of particular individual, culture or historical period; therefore nothing is objectively 'right' or 'wrong'.
Ethical Leadership (Ethical Leadership) Ethical leadership COMBINES ethical decision-making and ethical behavior, and occurs an individual and organizational context.
Ethical Dilemma (Ethical Leadership) SITUATIONS where one is forced to choose between two alternatives (both alternatives can be unfavorable and/or less right or less wrong and more wrong).
Morals (Ethical Leadership) VALUES tat we attribute to a system of BELIEVES that help us define right from wrong, good versus bad.
Ethical Minded Organization (Ethical Leadership) An ethically minded organization exemplifies professionalism, humility, self-control, personal discipline, and values.
Values (Ethical Leadership) The core BELIEFS we hold regarding what's right and fair in terms of our actions and our interactions with others; what individuals BELIEVE to be worth and importance in their life.
Air Force Core Values (Ethical Leadership) * Integrity First * Service Before Self * Excellence in All We Do.
DOD 5500.7-R (Ethical Leadership) Joint Ethics Regulations (acceptable ethical conduct)
Dr. Toner (Ethical Leadership) Explains that military ethics is about knowing what's true and then doing what's right. (3 Os, 3 Ps, 3 Rs, 3 Ds)
Three Os (Ethical Leadership) * Owing (Knowing specifically who you and what you owe) * Ordering (Displaying proper Order by having moral/ethical priorities. * Oughting (Understanding what Airmen ought to do)
Three Ps (Ethical Leadership) * Principle (TRUTH telling and honor) * Purpose (MISSION accomplishment and duty) * People ( Fellow citizens, AIRMEN, Soldiers, etc.)
Three Rs (Ethical Leadership) * RULES (Provide individuals ethical guidance) * Results (The outcome or bottom line-consequences of following or not following those rules) * Realities ( The result of recognizing the importance of the situation, circumstances, or realities)
Three Ds (Ethical Leadership) * Discern (The truth) * Declare (The truth) * Do (What you are discerned)
Tipping (Ethical Leadership) Collectively, members of the organization can 'tip' the scale of professionalism in either direction.
Five Steps of Ethical Decision Making (Ethical Leadership) 1. Interpret the situation 2. Analyze the situation 3. Identify ethical traps 4. Consider possible course of action 5. Decide the most ethical course of action
