Dental Embryology Terminology

Mitochondria - An organelle - Cell power plant - Present in all cells, except: Red blood cells and keratinocytes - Double membrane - Small and spherical - Principle site of energy in cell
Cell Nucleus - Found in Eukaryotic cells - Memory bank; all cells except mature red blood cells - Contains: nuclear envelope, nuclear pores, nucleolus (combine protein and rRNA)
Golgi Apparatus - Continuation of E.R. - Cuplike structure made of saccules where carbohydrate side chains of glycoproteins form. - Complex vesicle involved in secretion and intracellular transport
Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum - Ribosomes give it the name "rough" - Ribosomes are attached to the E.R. that function in synthesis of secretory protein.
Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum - Ultrastructural organelle consisting of membrane-bound cavities in the cytoplasm
