Dental Embryology Terminology
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Mitochondria | an organelle found in large number in most cells, in which the biochemical processes of respiration and energy production occur. It has a double membrane, the inner layer being folded inward to form layers. |
Cell Nucleus | organelle found in eukaryotic cells. Inside is fully enclosed nuclear membrane, it contains the majority of the cell's genetic material. |
Golgi Apparatus | a complex of vesicles and folded membranes within the cytoplasm of most eukaryotic cells, involved in secretion and intracellular transport. |
Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum | series of connected flattened sacs, part of a continuous membrane organelle within the cytoplasm of eukaryotic cells, that plays a central role in the synthesis of proteins. |
Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum | meshwork of fine disk like tubular membrane vesicles, part of a continuous membrane organelle within the cytoplasm of eukaryotic cells, that is involved in the synthesis and storage of lipids, including cholesterol and phospholipids, |
Frontonasal Process | is the midline unpaired embryonic structure that develops into the forehead. It is situated between the telencephalon, the stomodeum and the nasal pits. |
Medial nasal process | The medial nasal processes merge with the maxillary prominences. The lateral nasal process from each side merge to form the alae of the nose. |
Lateral nasal process | an Ectodermally covered mesenchymal swelling separating the embryonic olfactory pit from the developing eye |
Mandibular process | is an embryological structure which gives rise to the lower jaw elements of the developing face. |
Maxillary process | a triangular embryonic process that grows out from the dorsal end of the mandibular arch on each side and forms the lateral part of the upper lip, the cheek, and the upper jaw except the premaxilla |
Pharyngeal Arch #3 vessel | IS a series of externally visible anterior tissue bands lying under the early brain that give rise to the structures of the head and neck. |
