Dental Embryology Terminology (Week 1)
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Prophase | First phase of of mitosis. Chromatin thicken and form into chromosomes. Nuclear membrane disappears while centrioles move at opposite ends. Spindle forms in cytoplasm. |
Metaphase | Chromatid pairs and centromeres align at the equatorial plate. Centrioles move to opposite ends of the cell and attach to chromosomes by mitotic spindles. |
Anaphase | Daughter chromosomes (identical sets of chromatids) move to opposite poles of cell. |
Telophase | Cleavage furrow develops. Chromosomes detach and elongate becoming chromatin again. Nucleoli and nuclear envelop reappear. Mitotic spindle disappears and centrioles duplicate. |
Meiosis | Sex cell division where 46 chromosomes divide to 23 to create daughter cells. Daughter cells then pair with the opposite sex. |
