Term | Definition |

Stomodeum | The embryo's future oral cavity, an invagination (cavity/pouch) lined by surface ectoderm. Pit that develops between the brain and the heart in midline and becomes oral cavity. |
Intermaxillary segment | Section of frontal process where the 2 medial nasal process connect together. Provides a wedge shape in top anterior portion of palate. Will fuse together with maxillary process to form primary palate. |
Primary palate | That part of the palate formed from the median nasal process and 2 maxillary processes. The first palate to form is anterior to the secondary palate. Contains the incisor teeth. |
Secondary palate | The palate proper formed by fusion of the lateral palatine processes of the maxilla. Contain the canine and posterior teeth. |
Tuberculum impar | Central tissue of the tongue eventually overgrown by the two lateral tissues. |
