Dental Embryology Terminology (Week 2)
Term | Definition |

Pharyngeal arch | Also can be known as mandibular arch. Tissues that bend around the sides of the pharynx in the shape of bars; each arch is separated by grooves on lateral sides of the neck in fifth week. |
Pharyngeal pouch | Grooves that separate each pharyngeal arch. |
Pharyngeal Arch #1 Muscles | Become apparent in the fifth week. Muscles of mastication that develop the mandile: masseter, medial and lateral ptreygoid, and temporalis muscles. |
Pharyngeal Arch #1 Nerve | Trigeminal nerve (V), Facial nerve (VII) By the end of the seventh week fibers of trigeminal nerve have entered the mandibular mass as has the facial nerve in the facial muscle mass. |
Pharyngeal Arch #1 Cartilage/Bone | Meckel's cartilages appear bilaterally (malleus, incus). These are the hearing bones. |
Pharyngeal Arch #1 Vessels | Each arch contains a right and left aortic arch vessel that leads from the heart through the arches to the face, brain and posterior regions of the body. |
