Allergic Contact Dermatitis | Allergic response in which the immune system reacts to the proteins or other component that's absorbed through the skin |
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) | 1. Determine whether the victim is conscious 2. Determine whether the victim is breathing 3. Perform chest compressions |
Chemical Hygiene Plan | Describes all safety procedures, special precautions, and emergency procedures used when working with chemicals |
Department of Transportation (DOT) Label | Display the type of hazard, the UN Hazard, and an identifying number |
Globally Harmonized System (GHS) of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals | Contains information on the identity of the chemical, the chemical manufacturer or other responsible party, appropriate hazard warnings communicated through pictograms |
Irritant Contact Dermatitis | Occurs as a result of direct skin contact with materials left on the latex surface during manufacturing, such as processing chemicals |
Latex Sensitivity | Allergic reaction to latex in gloves or other equipment |
National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) label | Warns of the location of the hazardous material in the event of a fire |
Occupational Safety and Health Association Administration (OSHA) | Regulations designed to inform and protect workers from harm |
Radioactive Hazard Symbol | Displayed in areas where radioactivity is used |
Safety Data Sheet (SDS) | Provides information about the chemical, its hazards, and the procedures for clean up and first aid |
Sharps | Especially needles and lancets, are the most common hazards you will encounter in phlebotomy |
Anaphylaxis | Rapid, severe immune reaction that can be life threatening if not treated |
