Compare/Contrast | to note what is similar and different about two or more things. |
Conclude | to make a decision about; decide. |
Conflict | A struggle or a problem. |
Connotation | something suggested by a word or thing. |
Denotation | the dictionary definition of a word. |
Describe | to tell or write about something. |
Dialogue | The conversations that characters have with one another. Usually in quotation marks. |
Evidence | something that furnishes proof. |
Explicit | leaving no question as to meaning |
Fable | a make-believe story that teaches a moral, especially with animals as characters. |
Fairy-tale | a type of short story with fairies, goblins, elves, trolls, dwarves, giants or gnomes, and usually magic and enchantments. |
Fiction | A literary work whose content is based on the imagination and not fact. |
Figurative meaning | language that uses words or expressions with a meaning that is different from the literal interpretation, such as metaphor, simile, personification, hyperbole, or symbolism. |
Foreshadowing | the use of hints or clues to suggest what will happen later in the story. |
Graphics | charts, graphs, and pictures that represent and show data related to, or elaborate on, something in the main body text. |
