QuestionAnswer
Great Britain gained much more land in North America because of the French and Indian War
This was issued by the British government forbidding colonists to move west of the Appalachian Mountains. Proclamation of 1763
The French/Indian War caused the British government to go into debt, so they decided to tax the colonists. The first tax in 1764 was called the Sugar Act
Next, the British government taxed everything involving paper. This was called the stamp Act
Because the colonists were refusing to pay the new taxes, the British sent soldiers to live with the colonists. This was called the Quartering Act
Some colonists rebelled against these Acts, forming a group called the Sons of Liberty
Because of the colonists’ rebellion, the Acts had to be canceled. So the British government tried again by taxing imported British goods. These Acts were called the Townshend Acts
Colonists who supported the rebellion were called Patriots
In 1770 five colonists were killed by British soldiers. This later became known as the Boston Massacre
This group of people helped spread news to colonists in order to gain support for the Patriot cause. This group was called the Committees of Correspondence
All Acts were repealed except for the Tea Act
Colonists boycotted the Tea Act by dumping 342 chests of tea in the Boston Harbor. This became known as the Boston Tea Party
These Acts in 1774 were meant to punish the colonists for the Boston Tea Party. The colonists called them The Intolerable Acts
This was formed to bring all the 13 colonies together to decide what to do about the Intolerable Acts The First Continental Congress
This became the colonists’ slogan when rebelling against the British government. No taxation without representation
