Advent | When: Late November to December 24 What: a time of waiting and preparation for the arrival of Jesus Colours: Purple (first, second, and fourth Sunday) and pink (third Sunday) |
Christmas | When: December 25 (Christmas Day) to early January What: a celebration of the God's arrival in the world as man, through the birth of Jesus Colour: White |
Ordinary Time | When: Mid-January to mid-late February, and late May to late November What: a period of maturation and growth, where one's faith is to be examined and reaffirmed through the teachings of Jesus. Colour: Green |
Lent | When: Late February to late March/early April What: 40 days of penance and sacrifice, mirroring Jesus' time in the Judaean Desert when he was tempted by Satan. Colour: Purple |
Triduum | When: Late March/early April What: The three holiest days of the year, starting the evening of Holy Thursday and concluding the evening of Easter Sunday. They recognize the passion (suffering), death, and resurrection of Jesus. Colour: Red |
Easter | When: Late March/early April to late May What: a period of 50 days (51 including Easter Sunday) that celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, his ascension into heaven, and the Holy Spirit's descent on the apostles (Pentecost Sunday) Colour: White |
