Ventricles

Heart Ventricles quiz

hintanswer
ventricles are the discharging chambers of the heart
when ventricles contract blood is propelled out into the pulmonary circuit and the systemic circuit
right ventricle pumps blood to the pulmonary cirulation (lungs) via the pulmonary trunk
left ventricle pumps blood to the systemic circulation (body) via the aorta
trabeculae carneae on internal walls of ventricles; are irregular ridges of muscle flesh
papillary muscles muscle bundles that project from the trabeculae carneae into the ventricle
'heart strings" chordae tendineae, white collagen cords that anchor the cusps of valves to the papillary muscles in the ventricles
atrioventricular (AV) valves two valves located at the junction of the atria and the ventricles; they prevent flow into the atria when the ventricles contract
right AV valves tricuspid valves
tricuspid valves right AV valves; has three flexible cusps made of endocardium and conncetive tissue
endocardium membrane that lines the inside of heart chambers
left AV valves bicuspid (mitral) valves
mitral valves bicuspid, in the right atrium ventricular junction
myocardium of left ventricle larger and thicker than the right; very distinct in disection; needs to be thicker because it provides more pressure to push blood through systemic circulation
valves of the left ventricle AV valves :bicuspid(mitral); aortic Semilunar valve
valves of right ventricle tricuspid; pulmonary (trunk) semilunar valve
