Inhaled Steroids | exert anti-inflammatory actions to reduce inflammation in the airways |
Short Acting Beta Agonist | Activate beta 2 receptors in the lung, leading to relaxation of the bronchial smooth muscle in turn leading to bronchodilation and an increase in bronchial airflow |
Long Acting Beta Agonist | Activate beta 2 receptors in the lung, leading to relaxation of the bronchial smooth muscle in turn leading to bronchodilation and an increase in bronchial airflow |
Inhaled Anticholinergic | block the effects of acetylcholine leading to bronchial smooth muscle relaxation |
Methylxanthines | relax the smooth muscle of the bronchial airways and pulmonary blood vessels |
Leukotreine Receptor Agonist | inhibit the effects of leukotrienes to reduce bronchial smooth muscle contraction airway edema and mucous formation |
