Superior Auricular m. O: scalp above ear I: upper ear F: raises ear
Posterior Auricular m. *most developed ear muscle in humans O: superior nuchal line I: posterior ear F: pulls ear back
Occipitofrontalis *also known as epicranius O: connective tissue of scalp F: moves scalp forward-squint & backward-surprise
Platysma *broad flat sheet O: skin below clavicle I: inferior border of mandible F: pulls corner of mouth down - grimace
Orbicularis Oculi *orbital part- encircles eye *palpebral part- eyelid O: medial & lateral edges of eye I: medial & lateral corners of eye F: close eyelids
Levator palpabrae superioris Muscle of the orbit O: back of eye I: upper eyelid F: raises eyelid N: III cranial nerve- occulomotor nerve
Corrugator O: bridge of nose I: lateral eyebrow F: pulls eyebrow medially & down
Procerus O: bridge of nose I: medial eyebrow F: pulls eyebrow down medially
Dilator Naris O: base of nose I: lateral of nose F: pull nostrils down to flare
Compressor Naris O: nasal septum I: lateral of nose F: compress nostrils
Orbicularis Oris O: anterior nasal spine I: skin of lip F: closes & compresses lips
Levator Labii Superioris O: lower orbit I: orbicularis oris F: elevates upper lip
Zygomaticus Minor O: zygomatic bone I: orbicularis oris F: raises upper lip, but not a great influence
Zygomaticus Major O: zygomatic bone I: orbicularis oris/corner of mouth F: elevates corners of mouth- smile
Levator Anguli Oris O: infraorbital foramen of maxilla I:orbicularis oris/corners of mouth F: pulls angle of mouth up toward midline
Depressor Labii Inferioris O: inferior border of mandible I: orbicularis oris/middle of lower lip F: pulls lower lip down- pout
Depressor Anguli Oris O: inferior border of mandible I: orbicularis oris/corners of mouth F: pulls corners of mouth down
Mentalis O: anterior surface of mandible I: skin of chin F: pulls skin of chin up
Buccinator *most important muscle of the mouth *accessory muscle of mastication O:pterygomandibular raphe & buccal alveolar bone I: orbicularis oris/corners of mouth F: pulls corner of mouth back & compresses cheeks, pushes food back onto occlusal surfaces
Risorius O: angle of mandible I: skin at corner of mouth F: aids in smiling-poorly developed
