classifications of Research quantitative and qualitative
Qualitative research A researcher would choose to conduct this type of study if the question to be answered is about understanding the meaning of human experience. ie grief hope loss
Qualitative research is generally conducted in natural settings ans uses data that are words or texts rather than numeric to describe experiences. data from these studies help nurses understand experiences that affect patients and lead clinicians to develop improved care.
quantitative research the study of research questions/hypothesis that describe phenomena, relationships, assess differences and seek to explain cause & effect. the data is summerized in statistics
qualitative vs quantitative primary difference: qualitative seeks to interpret meaning whereas quantitative seeks to test a hypothesis or answer a question based om framework
critical thinking examination of ideas, assumptions, principles, arguments conclusions issues, staements, beliefs and actions
critical reading defined as an acitve intellectually engaging process in which reader participates in inner dialoge with writer
asumptions are accepted truths
critique is the process of objectivley and critically evaluating a research reports content for scientific merit and the application to practice theory & education.
levels of evidence Level I: meta-analysis highest Level II: evidence from one source Level II: eveidenced obtained from well designed trials w/o randomizationLevel IV: eveidence from non experimental studies
