Three-Fifths Compromise | Under this agreement only three-fifths state's slave population would count when determining representations |
Popular Sovereignty | The idea that political authority belongs to the people |
Federalism | The sharing of power between a central government and the states that make up a country |
Legislative Branch | First branch, responsible for proposing or passing laws |
Executive Branch | Second branch, includes the president and the departments that help run the government |
Judicial Branch | Third branch, made up of all the national courts |
Checks and Balances | Kept any branch of government from becoming too powerful |
