Nonfiction Vocab

QuestionAnswer
main (central) idea the main point the author makes about a topic
topic one or two words that describe what the passage is about
supporting detail shows evidence or examples of the central idea
direct quote a group of words copied from the text
citing evidence information used to support opinions or beliefs
author's purpose the reason the author wrote the passage (persuade, inform, or entertain)
paraphrase rewording of something written by someone else
credible or reliable source the author is trustworthy because his or her information is supported with facts
plagiarism copying or using someone else's words without citing your source
opinion one's personal beliefs about a topic
