When does complete cleft form? | Before 9th week, growth is arrested |
Complete Cleft | Goes all the way into nose, includes lip, alveolus, hard palate, and velum |
Incomplete Cleft | Won't go all the way into nose |
When does incomplete cleft form? | 9th week |
Bilateral cleft | Clefted on both let and right sides of lip/nose |
Incomplete cleft palate | only posteriorly cleft (at incisive foramen and behind it) |
Where does cleft palate occur? | Median palatine suture because the palate only has one suture line, must split here |

What do you see when levator muscle anteriorly inserts? | Notching |
Microform cleft | Partial or arrested form of cleft lip |
Simonarr's band | Strand of soft tissue in area of cleft |
Prolabia | Soft tissue only and no bones seen |
What does it mean if premaxilla is out? | There is bone seen in the cleft |
