Improved Technologies Change Living Patterns

TermDefinition
street car Cars hauled by horses over rails that carried people all over the cities.
cable car Cars that had a cable moved by a centrally located steam generator being set in motion just below the surface near steel rails.
trolley car Cars with a motion made possible by being connected to electrical lines overhead.
mass production To produce in quantity - usually by machinery
suburbs Communities near the immediate area of a large city.
transportation A means of moving goods, and people from one place to another.
shopping malls A modern complex of shops.
domestic Of or pertaining to a nation.
international Between or among nations.
imports Goods and services we bring into our country or state.
exports Goods and services we send to other countries from our port cities.
refined To purify from a crude state, such as petroleum.
interstates Involving and relating to the mutual relations of states, especially of the U.S.
route An established line of travel or access.
vineyards Fields that are planted with grapes.
truck farms A farm where vegetables are grown for market.
specialized Developed or designed for a special activity or function.
pipelines Pipes used to transport liquids or gases.
