physical activity any bodily movement produced by the skeltal muscles that results in energy expenditure. it is associated with occupation, leisure time, household chores, and sport
exercise a subject of physcial activity that is planned, structured and repetitive and has the object of improving or maintaining physical fitness.
physical fitness a set of health or skill related attributes that can be measured by specific tests
health related fitnesss refers to muscular strength and endurance, CRF, flexibility, and body composition (relative leaness)
skill related fitness refers to agility, balance, coordination, speed, power, and reaction time that are linked to games, sport, dance and so on.
absolute intensity rate of work and can be expressed in a number of ways: kcal/min, mm of o2 consumed per kg of body weight per minute, MET which is taken as RMR and is equal to 3.5ml x kg x min; exercise intensity is given as a multiple of MET (3-6)
relative intensity describes the degree of effort required to expend energy and is influenced by CRF or maximal aerobic power. a person with a crf of 10 METs who is working at 6 MET is at a relative intensity of 60% VO2 max.
moderate intensity refers to an absolute intensity of 3-5.9 MET and a relative intensity of 40% - 59% VO2 max.
vigorous intensity refers to an absolute intensity of 6 or more MET and a relative intensity of 60-84% VO2 max
frequency refers to the number of days per week physical activity is done
duration refers to the amount of time a physical acitivity is done
volume refers ot the total amount of enery expended or work accomplished in an activity and is equal to the product of the absolute intensity, frequency, and time.
