audiometer calibration

QuestionAnswer
equipment should be calibrated how often once a year to make sure it meets ANSI standards
who does the calibration technicians from the manufacturer calibrate it via electroacoustic measurements
calibration testing 1.intensity 2.frequency 3.linearity of attenuator dial 4.amount of harmonic distortion 5.timing 6.overshooting 7.unwanted acoustic radiation 8.masking 9.speech circuit 10.bone vibrator 11.sound fields
frequency if oscillator is reading wrong by 1Hz it's okay if off by 1KHZ, not okay
intensity attenuator dial
frequency oscillator if off by 1Hz no problem
linearity of attenuator dial is the dB jump really 5db
amount of harmonic distortion when a tone is presented at a loud level
timing rise and fall time of the signal ex: if tone comes on too fast, there is a click. you don't want the click and you don't want the tone to gradually get louder
Overshooting an initial jump in loudness
unwanted acoustic radiation when no tone is presented but the person can hear a low or faint sound in the headphone
masking a noise you can present to the ear not being tested
speech circuit for speech audiometer
bone vibrator test circuitry
sound fields through loud speaker and circuitry

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
